Acker Bilk - Summer Set download song

Remember this so well, when aged 10, I listened to the late David Jacobs doing his late night saturday radio show, ' Pick Of The Pops ', in 1960, 2 years before the legendary  Alan  Freeman took over on sunday afternoon, a classic track.For another 2 years, Kenny Ball was to have ' trad jazz ' hits before The Beatles took the world by storm !.

He had a great jazz band back then, they also made a movie called “Band of Thieves”.

I remember buying this a s a single or EP, while at High School in Motherwell. I haven't heard it for at least forty years and forgot just how good it was and is. What a tone and sense of improvisation! Acker's playing made me get my dad to buy me a clarinet (Selmer Studente from Golumbs in Glasgow Saltmarket). I still blow yet, mainly for relaxation. Acker's influence lives on. Thanks for posting this, ulajazz. Vast numbers of people are enjoying the fruits of your work.

We organised a "Jazz Band Ball" in St. Albans church hall, Thornton Heath in 1960. . We were still at school. 150 turned up!  Jazz was king back then.  We were inspired by Collyer, Bilk, Barber, Ball et al.  I went over to the pub during the break with the band!!!!!

A Sunday afternoon, a beer, soak a few rays, a girl or two around, and Acker , heaven.:))

I'm from Somerset too, and I thought it was how the title was spelt. My favourite track of his.

Bought this record back in 1959 in Broardmeads record shop in Harrow London when i was 13years old with money from my paper round. Great B side Ackers Away
