Sitting here forgotten
Like a book upon a shelf
No one there to turn the page
You’re left to read yourself
Alone to sit and wonder just
How the story ends
Cause no-one ever told you, child
You gotta be your own best friend
Sunny days, cloudy days
Always seem the same
If love were made of clouds, I almost
Wish that it would rain
Even when the skies are clear
The weather’s always blue
Every day would be nice if I
Had someone I could come home to
Love
Oh, is it really love at all?
Or something that I heard love called?
Something that I heard love called?
Now life can sometimes slip away
And love can pass you by
If only it had been another place, another time
Maybe there’ll be someone who
Likes to see you smile
Who will want to stay with you
And be your friend for a little while
Wake up in the morning
Feeling so alive
Something you can hold on to, not
A shadow by your side
I guess that there’ll be time to talk of
Things that we’ve been through
That special time when all is real
To feel reborn when love is new
Love
Oh, is it really love at all?
Or something that I heard love called?
Something that I heard love called?
Then sundown comes around again
You find yourself alone
Wander through a sea of eyes
But always on your own
Was it really all you thought that
It was supposed to be?
Or are you just another face
In someone’s fading memory?
Love
Oh, is it really love at all?
Or something that I heard love called?
Something that I heard love called?
Something that I heard love called
Something that I heard love called
Something that I heard love called…
I am so grateful that I can hear Eric's incredible music on UTube...all my LPs are scratched, and I don't have a turntable anymore anyway. I miss my favorite talents that I thrived on...just hearing him again is taking me to a more beautiful place! Thank you !
Love him, I used to nurse my daughter and then put this album on and he would sing her to sleep every night, that was 27 years ago, gives me that peaceful feeling.
I really love Eric Anderson. I saw him twice at my university, I think. At least once. He has a special quality, especially in this song above all. It is one of my favorites My favorite albums are Blue River and Time Like a Freight Train. It has a soothing quality, which always calms me. I like his easy-style of singing. He also played the piano, not just the guitar. Of course I think there were no back-up performers at the college concerts, as on the records. I think Joni Mitchell was his singing background here.
This is a beautiful song, it helped me deal with my troubles when I was in my early 20's. It's amazing how a song can really fit with your emotions at the time. Joni Mitchell was bacgrounf vocals for this LP. Thanks for posting.
Eric Anderson gives a genuineness to this song that only he possesses! Always takes me to another place and time when life was so full of idealism and romantic illusions!
