Love your description of the album & song. So true! This one will always get overlooked by the majority of Clapton fans for obvious reasons. I love his gentler melodies and songs as well. 461 Ocean Boulevard is very similar in that sense. The anniversary release of Slowhand has a Gordon Lightfoot cover ("Looking At The Rain") on it ~ beautifully done.

After all these years this is still such a sweet song. I remember being 18 and making love to this album, fumbling around in the dark like the kid I was with the turntable and her bra, Clapton's voice mixing perfectly with her perfume in my brain. Jesus, that was so long ago...

Both versions are great but I find Eric's to be more emotional than Don's. It's like he knows how screwed up he was back then and is singing about it in a quiet sort of way. Such a good song either way.

Many great seventies memories attached to this one....Bitter sweet. I lost My friend in 79' Whom loved this album. I miss Him alot, Especially when I hear this record.
