The falling leaves
Drift by the window
The autumn leaves
All red and gold
I see your lips
The summer kisses
The sunburned hands
I used to hold.
Since you went away
The days grow long…
And soon I’ll hear
Old winter songs
But I miss you most of all
My darling, when autumn leaves start to fall…
C’est un chanson
Qui nous ressemble
Toi qui m’aimais
Et je t’aimais
Nous vivions tous les deux ensemble
Tou qui m’aimais
Moi qui t’aimais
Mais la vie separe
Ceux qui s’aiment
Tout doucement
Sans faire de bruit
Et la mer efface sur le sable
Les pas des amants desunis.
Since you went away
The days grow long…
And soon I’ll hear
Old winter songs
But I miss you most of all
My darling, when autumn leaves start to fall…
I heard him perform jazz during a campus event during my college years. There were few more memorable and meaningful jazz performances for me during those years as this recital was at the top of the list for my tastes and remained there. I still collect and listen to his recordings. A superior artist. Gold standard for evaluating artists.
I was brought up on Errol Garner, my dad - an accomplished jazz pianist himself loved him. He went to see him in London in 1972 and somehow ended up on the stage with him. He sadly passed away very recently and we had Errol playing quietly in the background. It’s what he would have wantedI can’t listen to Errol without crying right now, it’s much too poignant.
