JOHN was terribly insecure. Hard to comprehend a man being the leader of The Beatles could not be self confident and arrogant but we are who we are as developed growing up and we develop ways of coping and dealing as a way of self preservation. As the original front man and until Ringo the oldest Beatle John used his early adolescent “ tough guy’Teddy Boy’ image and mannerisms to help push the others forward. In truth Paul and George were much better adjusted... and both grew extensively and comfortably with FAME. John often came across cocky and nasty.... it was a defense mechanism. He was still little scared, frightened and I am sure angry little JOHN. John rarely liked ANYTHING about himself as an artist. Would have preferred to sing like Paul, Play guitar like Hendrix... etc However, he was a serious damn good rhythm guitarist. His voice is really distinct and beautiful. I guess he needed YOKO for security reasons.

John Lennon ALWAYS emphasized how much distress he was in when he wrote this. He said he was really asking someone to help him. The Beatles needed a pop hit which I love but I do believe this is the proper way to deliver the lyrics
