Philthy beautiful track with a nice low-end undulation. Length is timely and captures the true feeling without being a boring epic. Yet another Hopkins beaut!
I am in love with everything Jon Hopkins released since Insides, 2009. The effort he puts into his music, his texture usage, detail work, sound design, the progression in his tracks, production skills, whatsoever; it always touched me emotionally on so many levels, not just that it's technically impressive. The album Immunity was a beautiful shock back then; I still remember how excited it got me from the first listening, and I've been listening to it obsessively for a long time. And now the album Singularity; I've just put it on knowing his work is always a continious journey. But this, this particular song called 'C O S M' came out and hit me like nothing else. This one is as if he matured his sound, from complexity to simplicity; yet so intense. To me this is the 'climax' of all his work since years. I still can't put it into words, but feel thankful I have heard this while I have the chance to exist. Art, I guess.
The best part of this track (and maybe the whole album) is around the 3 minute mark when those glorious waves of bass wash over you, and shortly after that massive drum hit that digs even deeper and the waves of bass seem to emanate from. Headphones don’t do it justice, though. You really need a large subwoofer in your listening space to get the most out of it. Jon Hopkins is so clever with bass, he turned me into a basshead.
I feel like all this album is a trip to the space and this track is the part when you have seen all the beautiful things out there but its time to go back to earth.
