I was raised on her songs and at 57 years of age I still sing them and am inspired. This anointed woman truly knew her God and her Lord. I thank God for her using the gift to point many toward salvation through Christ to God.
I always loved this song by Mahalia. The lyrics are so uplifting, her voice so reassuring, and the melody so intense and sang with great feeling. To the Lord, we give the glory.
I am 77 Years old, never in my life have I heard anyone with such an anointing with this voice that defies all words. God’s gift to us and I thank him I lived in her. Time
Mahalia didn't write "Move On Up A Little Higher" - that was W.H. Brewster, preacher & composer.
But she put in on the charts like no one else could, before or since.
Ms. Mahalia Jackson was 59 years of age when she passed away on stage in Berlin, Germany in 1972. I was a very young child, but I had already gotten so used her magnificent voice that I could recognize her in my sleep. Children and people of all ages the world over were shocked and in a way died with her. Hers was a gargantuan voice of GOLD which she delivered with such unique dexterity. sincerity, and a deep belief in God that provide the music of a glockenspiel in the most unique way. Why, therefore, that others who professed to be Christians just CANNOT sing like her?
