Given that Ministry are pretty influential act in metal, it's odd to think how music in both popular and underground spectrums would of developed if Jourgenson was a fan of the new wave style and stuck with it. Metal Wave? :p

You are the only person I know But I take you round to people who are on the go Well you took me to a picture show And what's the first thing I see But them burning pictures of my head to toe, hey! I'm not an effigy, no, no! I asked you if you would be mad If I packed my things and moved away to faraway land Well I packed my things and I moved to this place And what's the first thing I see But them burning pictures of me in my face, hey! I'm not an effigy, no, no! Well I moved back from this faraway land Walked right into a room with me mum and me dad Well I saw my picture hanging on the wall They tried to rip it and burn it But it just withstood it all and I said hey! I'm not an effigy I'm not angry I'm not an effigy... hey! Well walking around this stinking town I look up at the buildings and they get me down Well I look to my left and then I look to my right And then I realize they've been striking at me Since the middle of last night, hey! I'm not an effigy

One of the best synth-pop albums of the 80's.

This song got automatically played after "The Great Satan." It still stuns me that it's the same band.

I actually prefer this over metal... I love his metal stuff, but i'm more of a new wave kind of person, so...

Why is Al Jourgensen so embarrassed by this album? I love it... it's nice to listen to Ministry's early stuff.

I really dig this tune..I wish uncle Al would just switch up and go into a whole synthy electro sound again instead of rejecting it. That would be more refreshing and unexpected than to keep going to faster extremes. That's become to played out and predictable.

I love this song so much! I bought it as a teen in the late 90's at a flea market, and I was blown away by this incarnation of Ministry...why did it have to change so drastically? Al had the PERFECT voice for 80's synth, and it sucks to think that so much more good music like this could have been made, but turned into what we now know as Ministry.

a classic that proves the techno dance scene was indeed creative in both lyrical+groove modes
