Where will ye ga but from the shores of Scotia? To the unforgiving Atlantic or other cruel seas that will give ya nae but grief?? The Good Lord will guide ye to all places that gives ya nae good things (Ontario) or tha harsh lands beyond?? Those troublesome flat places (prairies) when ye can at last bear witness to the gentle shores of the Pacific.

the first time i heard this song i was about 11 years old and had to do a report on eastern mountain ballads. this song was on a record i rented from the library. i didn't hear it again for almost 40 years . and it is just as stirring to my soul as it was when i was 12.

fab song , going into our history of early Migration during the dark days of hardship,, our fishermen from Cork, Waterford, Wexford all settled there , and they still speak in their native dialect , even to this day.

When I used to live in Ontario, my grade 4 teacher used to play the guitar in front of the class and teach us to sing this song for music class :D

So proud to be a Nova Scotian! :) I love my province! I have to say that of all the places I've been in the west I think BC is the most similar to Nova Scotia as far as landscape goes. It still is different but at least there's trees... haha. There's nothin' like the good ole Atlantic though. boy... I cannot wait to return home for the summer! Alberta is such a bore. (no offence all ye Albertans)
