Are you up there?
Just give me a signal I’m reaching you now
Because I remember the sound of your voice
But I don’t remember what we talked about
It doesn’t matter, that’s a waste of time
So take off your rings and lipstick for me
I swear that I can hear you in the wind
You’re singing to me and dancing in the halls outside again
I’m always listening
Send me off into space on this rocket invention
We’ll look at the lights over the atmosphere
Eat gold medal ribbon till we die
Up here it’s self-sabotage, suffocation, and stale taste of blood
I’ll teach you to love, oh
I’ll teach you to love, oh
Again
(I swear, I swear, I swear, oh)
you can hear all his emotions while he sang this, I think that's the most beautiful thing a vocalist can do, this song is amazing just like the entire album
This song has a lot of meaning for me. On June 24th, my friend was murdered. He was a musician and a good singer. The funeral was held on July 1st and on the way home I listened to this album and was mindlessly singing along and not really paying attention to the words because I was emotionally exhausted. When the lyrics "you're singing to me and you're dancing in the halls outside again, I'm always listening" came up, it felt like getting hit by a freight train. I listened to the song the whole way through and tried to keep singing along through tears. The song ended just as I put the car in park in my driveway so I paused the music before Bedless came on. I sat there and cried for what felt like hours. I still can't listen to this song without bursting into tears at that line. For the rest of my life this song will remind me of Brandon. Rest in peace buddy, we miss you.
I remember the first time I heard this and I heard "Are you up there?" I just thought "oh shit this is gonna be a song about death isn't it". It's so underrated, how can this be the least popular song on the album when it's the most beautiful and most powerful, and probably most personal of theirs
funny how this song was written about Vic's first girlfriend who passed away (RIP) and how her fave ice cream was gold medal ribbon... funny because my friend passed away not really that long ago and his fave was also gold medal ribbon
Are you up there?
Just give me a signal I'm reaching for you now
Because I remember the sound of your voice
But I don't remember what we talked about
It doesn't matter, that's a waste of time
So take off your rings and lipstick for me
[Chorus:]
I swear that I can hear you in the wind
You're singing to me and dancing in the halls outside again
I'm always listening
Send me off into space on this rocket invention
We'll look at the lights over the atmosphere
Eat gold medal ribbon till we die
Up here it's self-sabotage, suffocation, and stale taste of blood
[Chorus]
I'll teach you to love, oh
I'll teach you to love, oh
Again
[Chorus]
(I swear, I swear, I swear, oh)
the reason ptv are so good is because their lyrics have a lot of meaning. But the people who don't like their music don't understand what the lyrics mean. It's great. :)
This song resonates with me so well. The synths and vic's astounding vocals in the chorus just fucking hit me like a bus. I connect with the lyrics very personal, as it's written about Vic's first girlfriend recently passing away. My best friend just recently passed away, so the lyrics seem like they were almost written in my own journal. Fantastic job once again to Mike, Jaime, Tony, and Vic. Cannot wait to hear how much of a heart crusher this is live.
