Ever Since I first heard Alto Madness, I was instantly addicted to his sound, style and technique. I said to myself this cat was born to Be Bop. One of the Baddest altos of our times !!

I saw Richie live in Vancouver in 1982 or 83 and a local female jazz singer got up and sat in and did some scat on a standard and he proceeded to sing circles around her doing his own bebop scat.

He uses his technical ability to play great music with a romantic feel and wit.

This horn is actually a Selmer Super Action 80 (before the Serie II or Serie III.) Some might called it a "Serie I" but Selmer did not because they probably did not know they would be making the other series. This was the first pro horn Selmer sold after the Mark VII (around 1982.) Richie picked this at the Selmer factory in France.

Thanks so much for posting this wonderful jazz composition. I heard it on a jazz show on radio years ago and had not heard it in a long time. The artistry of Richie Cole playing alto sax on this song is awesome. Kudos to all involved in the quartet as well as those who recorded it and especially to jazzexcursion for putting this on You Tube!
