This song actually songs quietly like the Ramones at its best. Although it's a cover but the Turtles in some form it's like the early punk with fast short songs and simple love songs, but also songs that challenge the status quo with irony tones like this one.

Never heard The Turtles' version of this great song. Interesting - not too bad. Thanks for posting it! I don't think anyone can equal the impact that McGuire had with this tune but that's from my perspective. The Turtles version came out (after The Byrds rejected it) right before the infamous McGuire version hit the airwaves but I don't think anyone from 'my generation' will remember anything other than the iconic version that took over that summer and the years following.

I swear, every time I hear this song I think of the book Slaughterhouse Five that I just read in English. This is an extremely well written and played song in my book

This could use a remix. But the military snare drum is an interesting touch. I put this one and Barry McGuire's hit in my Turtles playlist. Thanks for uploading!

If we were on the eve of destruction in the 1960's,  now it's the midnight hour indeed.   Great song.

All of us who came of age on the 60's really took these words to heart. Sadly, they are as relevant now as they were then. The doomsday clock is too close to midnight for so many reasons.
