It christmas day things never seem to go as planed cooked all day eat up and fuckoff. thank god for WAITS life would be so lonely.the night is just right love you TOM.....
Tom Waits is, in my opinion, one of the greatest songwriters who ever lived. He often champions the down and out every man trying to figure out his place in the world. He sings about men who seem to have an honest awareness of their insignificance, and own it with a kind of complexed nobility. He makes me realize that there is great poetry in everyone’s personal story if you actually take the time to listen to yourself tell it.
This seems to be early Tom Waits. The voice is faithful to the melody, the words are readily discernible and the manufactured gutteral overlay whch came to define him has yet to make an appearance. I suspect it is partly the fine balance he and his colleagues achieve between preparation and improvisation which makes these recordings so alive . . .
