This was played a lot, on WRKO-Boston, when it was released, when I was about 12 years old...Someone on the comments section mentioned, that radio stations, got copies of the song, with their own radio call letters dropped in the recordings at the part of song : "Life is a Rock, but "RKO"rolled me"(example) It wasn't the greatest song ever, but it was catchy novelty song in my "Wonder Years".....Basically it's the history of music ie; Rock n' Roll ,Soul,Pop,Blues and everything in between.....
This is such a great song. And it was a top 10 billboard hit. Can someone please explain where the hell it went? And why it was shelved and hasn't got any radio play in over 40 years? I mean listen to all those great artists rattled off! I got a little sad when he got to David Bowie. Bring this back to classic stations, please.
You thought right, abmcw. A pleasant memory from my childhood is sitting around listening to this....on the AM dial! I still have this on a cassette I recorded back in the fall/winter of '73.
In the day we had a guy in our group who had stutter speech and after a night of pounding them down he could sing this song note to note word to word..
