I know I have earned it But most days I don’t feel like I deserve this
To the victor go the spoils
Through this mortal coil
Oh how the years have been so kind to me
I found the permanent place
Where the skies are gold not grey
Well, I can taste the salt on your skin
And feel the sunshine on my face
We’re gonna run, we’re gonna run, gonna runaway
From the day
We’re gonna run, gonna run, gonna runaway
From the day
Finally free from the past
How long could a feeling like this last?
The road away from here
Is long and steep my dear
Oh how the years have been so kind to me
I found the permanent place
Where the skies are gold not grey
Where I can taste the salt on your skin
And feel the sunshine on my face
We’re gonna run, we’re gonna run, gonna runaway
From the day
We’re gonna run, gonna run, gonna runaway
From the day
We’re gonna run
I found the permanent place
Where the skies are gold not grey
We’re gonna run
We’re gonna run
Ooh
Ooh
Ooh
Ooh
Ooh
Ooh
Ooh
Ooh

I really really love listening to this on my drives, especially when the sun is out. Map of The World is another favourite. I bought this complete album after only listening to a couple of previews and I haven't regretted it once.
I'm still here, the years so kind, 58, I still look and feel great. Pretty much, but that brings me to why this song makes me cry. It will always remind me of the day when my late wife was diagnosed with cancer. "We're gonna' run away from that day." We tried, it was not a quiet a year and she was gone. I'm still here, the years so kind to me............... Not really, without her, it's a lonely, crule world.
This entire album is perfect. And I'm not just saying that because City & Colour is my favorite. You REALLY hear how much Dallas Has grown as a songwriter and musician in this album. There are so many nuances in the music, and the lyrics...my god the lyrics. I've also noticed that this album refers to Dallas getting older and how his career in music has taken a slight toll on him where his other albums don't really refer as much to the subject. for example: Map of the World, Blood, and Killing Time. But at the same time he touches on a some positivity with Run away. Then there are the references to his personal life.
I have to say...this is my favorite non-acoustic album.
And for those of you stating that he has moved away from his original style, he has in a sense, but that isn't a bad thing. He AND the band have transcended the expectation of many of their fans, and in doing so made a very prominent mark on our lives. And with Dallas' work ethic (roughly an album every 2 years) I CANNOT wait to hear where the years will take his style.
Thanks for providing me with music that speaks to me as a musician and a human.
Thanks, Dallas.
For Sharon, R.I P. Meepy, I will always love you, forever and always. This song will forever remind me of the day they said she has cancer, we tried to run away.
