Lifeboats. All volunteers, ready to be called out at any moment. In Broughty Ferry, a flare goes up and a shot sounds out, that's the signal for the brave men to leave their jobs and take up their lifeboat duties. Yet they have to rely on public donations to keep going. A scandal. The government should fund all life boats.

God save all lifeboat men and women wherever they may be. The bravest of the brave.

i'm from dundee and neverheard anything about this until my dad introduced me to luke's music a few years ago. does anyone know of any statue/plaques that are up commemorating these men?

Such a moving and inspirational song...I was lucky enough to sing it in Gaelic last week in Donegal, Ireland, by a céili and a session of traditional music, in a pub (Teach Hiudai Beag i mBun Beag). The applause I got was like a tribute to these heroes, those gallant men, who gave their lives for the sake of others...

People offering their lives to save other ones give inspiration.

The City of Dundee commemorated the tragedy today. After a church ceremony the modern lifeboat was sent out with wreaths to lay on the spot where the last radio message was received, at the spot where the River Tay merges with the North Sea. Relatives of the deceased were present. RIP, such bravery has to be remembered beyond time itself.
