Slack your rope hangman, slack it for a while
I think I see my father comin' ridin' many a mile
Father have you brought me hope or have you paid my fee
Or have you come to see me hangin' from the gallows tree?
I have not brought you hope, I have not paid your fee
Yes I have come to see you hangin' from the gallows tree.
Slack your rope hangman, slack it for a while
I think I see my mother comin' ridin' many a mile
Mother have you brought me hope or have you paid my fee
Or have you come to see me hangin' from the gallows tree?
I have not brought you hope, I have not paid your fee
Yes I have come to see you hangin' from the gallows tree.
Slack your rope hangman, slack it for a while
I think I see my brother comin' ridin' many a mile
Brother have you brought me hope or have you paid my fee
Or have you come to see me hangin' from the gallows tree?
I have not brought you hope, I have not paid your fee
Yes I have come to see you hangin' from the gallows tree.
Slack your rope hangman, slack it for a while
I think I see my true love comin' riding' many a mile
True love have you brought me hope or have you paid my fee
Or have you come to see me hangin' from the gallows tree?
Yes I have brought you hope, yes I have paid your fee
For I’ve not come to see you hangin' from the gallows tree.
Amazing the result you achieve when three people of high intelligence combine to render perfection of the highest order in style, mood, and musical/vocal precision. Then you add the work they did to further the value of people as individuals. I love the three of them so, they can move me emotionally like no one else.
I really love the harmonies in this song, and its amazing to see such a beautiful quality video from so long ago. Im thrilled this was posted. Its brought me a renewed appreciation for a truly great trio from a very amazing musical era. Thanks for posting!
I'm a 28 year old man, and I think this is the only song in the world that makes me cry literal tears. Tears of sadness, and then tears of unimaginable love and joy.
Been in love with mary since the first time I saw her on TV (along with many others I imagine.......)
This is a lovely version. I'm always impressed that folk songs are so variable
I like this version, and I also love the version by Led Zepplin on their 3rd Album
RIP Mary where ever you may be
Something about Mary, i culd watch her singing million times..her expressions, voice, hair tossin at 'if i had a hammer'...so natural...than todays women artists..
These three voices worked together like no other; I don't think even the Beatles could of done any better. There will never be a group like this again. Peter Paul and Mary were and will always be the greatest!
