I’m goin' home on the morning train
I’m goin' home on the morning train
I’m goin' home on the morning train
If you don’t see me you can hear me singing
All my sins been taken away, taken away
Sister Mary wore three links of chain
Sister Mary wore three links of chain
Sister Mary wore three links of chain
On each link was my Jesus name
All my sins been taken away, taken away
I’m on my way to the freedom land
I’m on my way to the freedom land
I’m on my way to the freedom land
Lord God Almighty hold my hand
All my sins been taken away, taken away
Well I don’t know but I been told
Streets in heaven paved in gold
Keep your hand on that plow, hold on
Hold on, hold on, keep your hand on that plow, hold on
The devil he has a slippery shoe
And if you don’t watch out he’ll slip it on you
Keep your hand on that plow, hold on
Hold on, hold on, keep your hand on that plow, hold on
I’m goin' home on the morning train
I’m goin' home on the morning train
I’m goin' home on the morning train
If you don’t see me you can hear me singing
All my sins been taken away, taken away
I was 10 in 1966, loved the song then and and now, after all these years. Mary was extremely beautiful, and I liked it when people remarked that she walked with integrity through life...
A lot of people, young and old, find this group appealing. Most don't know why. The answer is simple. They did it right; consistently, professionally, honestly, and true to their art, RIGHT!
Get real everyone. What you're hearing is class harmony sang by extremely talented artists of whom have given enormous pleasure to millions of people by putting their great talent on show. Huge respect and condolences.
HEARING THEM SING TOOK ME BACK IN TIME I AM 74 YEARS OLD B UT FOR THE TIME THAT SONG WAS ON I WAS 23 YEARS OLD AND WITH MY FIANCE AND VERY MUCH IN LOVE A GOOD TIME. AND YEP I MARRIED HIM THE FOLLOWING YEAR IN 1966.
I can not believe its been 51 years since this song came out. I was a 12 year old boy back in 1966 and love the folk music of the 60's. Peter, Paul and Mary, Pete Seeger, Joan Baez and Bob Dylan made folk music cool to listen to. They were great social conscious songs that relate to time immemorial. And now that I am 64 years old...This song still captures my heart. I consider the 60's as the greatest decade in Folk and Rock & Roll music. Priceless!
In the early morning rain
With a dollar in my hand
And an aching in my heart
And my pockets full of sand
Im a long way from home
And I missed my loved one so
In the early morning rain
With no place to go
Out on runway number nine
Big 707 set to go
But Im out here on the grass
Where the pavement never grows
Well, the liquor tasted good
And the women all were fast
There she goes my friend
She's rolling down at last
Hear the mighty engine roar
See the silver wing on high
She's away and westward bound
Far above the clouds shell fly
Where the morning rain dont fall
And the sun always shines
She' ll be flying over my home
In about three hours time
This old airport's got me down
Its no earthly good to me
'Cause Im stuck here on the ground
Cold and drunk as I might be
You cant jump a jet plane
Like you can a freight train
So Id best be on my way
In the early morning rain
So Id best be on my way
In the early morning rain
I thought Paul's voice was the backbone! He had such a rich tone, incomparable range, could dip down so low and come back. I loved tge songs he sang lead on. No group ever compared with the rich sound and harmonies. Never heard anything like them and never will! My sister's were ten and 14 yrs older so I grew up playing all their albums. Introduced a lot of my friends.
They played the soundtrack of my childhood and I am a better person for tuning in!!
